Don’t worry so much when your child did not use his sleeve. You child might do it here and there, but not always. It might take a little while for your child to learn how to use their elbows to sneeze or cough into. Recognize when your child successfully uses their elbow to sneeze or cough. Bear can hold his arm up to cover his cough.Ģ. When you are playing with your child, you can pretend that Mr. Your child’s favorite dolls or stuffed animals can also be good role models, with your help. Children learn a lot from you! Also, if you see that your child is about to cough or sneeze, you can gently direct their arms to their mouth/nose by saying “Cover your mouth with your sleeve.” First, whenever you sneeze or cough, make sure that you are using your sleeve (not your hands!) to cover your mouth and nose. Even if it might take some time, it will help your child and you stay healthy if your child learns to cover his cough/sneeze. As the winter approaches, our bodies have to adjust to the temperature changes, and the dry air can make us more susceptible to cold. When I’m on the floor doing programs and staffing exhibits, it almost seems like everyone is sick as I hear people coughing and sneezing all around the Museum.
